Rémy Markowitsch

No Simple Way Out

Maschinenhaus M2

With a time- and research-based artistic approach, Rémy Markowitsch focuses on cultural phenomena and historical as well as political topics. At the KINDL, a representative selection of objects and photographs as well as text and video installations ranging from the 1990s to the present featuring animals and people will be shown for the first time across 400 square metres. Books are both a source and a cultural repository for Markowitsch’s works. They accompany visitors as an ‘imaginary library’ throughout the exhibition No Simple Way Out.

Rémy Markowitsch (Artist, Berlin / Lucerne) in conversation with Dr. Ralf Beil (General Director World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte)

The art historian and cultural studies scholar Dr. Ralf Beil, who is currently general director of the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site in Saarland, has known Rémy Markowitsch since his time working in Swiss museums, and has collaborated with him on extensive exhibition installations at the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt and the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, both of which Beil previously directed. In this discussion at the KINDL, the artist and the art historian will gallop together through the vast “rough steppe” of topics that are kaleidoscopically presented in the exhibition No Simple Way Out.
